Kompetensi dasar dilatihkan di kelas I. Pada tahun pertama ini siswa belajar tentang dasar-dasar kejuruan sesuai dengan Program Keahlian yang dipilih. Berbagai keahlian kejuruan dilatihkan secara komprehensif, mendalam dan intensif di kelas II. Pada awal kelas III, siswa melakukan magang (praktik kerja) di perusahaan agribisnis dan agroindustri selama 3 (tiga) bulan penuh. Setelah kembali ke kampus, setiap siswa mengelola suatu usaha agribisnis/agroindustri secara mandiri dengan modal usaha (seed capital) dari sekolah. Mereka menjalankan usahanya dengan prinsip-prinsip wirausaha, Menjelang akhir tahun ketiga, setiap siswa menempuh uji kompetensi berstandar nasional dengan penguji dari unsur dunia industri. Sertifikat akan diberikan kepada siswa yang lulus uji kompetensi tersebut.
